The Voice Of Business - The Chamber Policy Unit

Business needs a voice – it has to be heard on the issues that affect the every day ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ of the modern commercial world.

That’s why the Chamber’s policy unit works hard to create an environment in which business can flourish throughout the West Midlands region.

The unit makes sure that the concerns and worries of companies and organisations are aired with the top decision makers.

And it’s not just the ‘old’ chestnuts such as transport infrastructure, the skills gap, red tape and energy, that are their targets.

Rafts of employment regulation from health and safety to training, from holiday entitlement to the minimum wage, pour out of government departments and it’s the unit’s job to make sure the views and opinions of the Chamber’s members get to the right people.

Which means lobbying a number of key bodies locally, nationally and internationally taking in the Government of the day, MPs and MEPs, civil servants, Advantage West Midlands, and other business organisations and agencies.

The unit also represents members’ views on major economic decisions that impact on business - monthly interest rate decisions, Budget statements and pre-Budget reports.

The unit is there to give members the opportunity to become involved in lobbying work that can improve a firm’s profile both in the industry and in the media and give them a voice on the issues that matter to them.

Your voice is important. Email: k.teasdale@birminghamchamber.org.uk to get involved.

Virtual Committee Network
One way for Chamber members to get involved with our lobby work is to join the Virtual Committee Network.

From transport to taxation, EU policy to environmental issues, Birmingham Chamber’s Virtual Committee (VC) Network provides a forum for businesses to have their say on what matters most to them.

The VC Network is entirely free to join and is conducted via email for direct and speedy access to the Chamber’s policy unit team.

The VC Network enables you to make the most of your Chamber membership by providing:

● Opportunities to be part of a large and powerful lobbying force, identifying issues of concern to business and delivering solutions and recommendations to Government and other key decision makers;

●Opportunities for positive media exposure facilitated by Birmingham Chamber and its extensive press contacts.
